That was a great read Ralph! Who would have thought the mild-mannered Huck would have been an adrenaline junkie, daredevil and hero all rolled into one. ✊✊✊
You had me laughing throughout, especially the parts with the fish bully and "hypoxia is your friend".
Then, I had chills for the second half about the baby. You rose up to that challenge, RC. It's a powerful story, thank you for sharing. Was it after this baby charter that you resigned? My attention is definitely hooked.
Alas, I’ve never been personally. Brothers and friends worked up there over the years, mostly Forest Service, in fire. A few in construction. All have returned with wonderful stories of the land and waters and people. They came home with photos of mountains and wildlife, tundra and forest, of the skies on fire with the Aurora. And all have sworn the pictures cannot do it justice. To a man, they all returned with a deep abiding respect for their bush pilots (who may have been slightly crazy)

The sins of our past, huh?
I appreciate your read and words, Trish.

I resigned from the bush after my then-wife returned to Florida. She wasn’t up for rustic, remote life.
🙏
Respect, sir! (I know a bit about Alaska lol) You’ve led a fascinating life and you tell a great story.
Thank you, Deb.
Pray, tell us your experience?

I appreciate you sharing that, Deb.
It is indeed a land that commands respect and delivers lasting memories.
To pilot in the bush there, you didn’t have to be crazy, but for sure, daring.
In my family, “crazy” is a compliment - fire fighters totally get the “rush.”
Understood, Deb.
